Design i sammenheng 1: The Gutenbergparenthesis - and after

Will 500 years with the authority of the printed word become a parenthesis in human history? Which other authorities are threatened these days? Are other phenomena enclosed in brackets? What happens after the bracket?

In this miniseminar - the focus is on the internet and new media - where guests from "the cloud" shares their recorded thoughts with us. They are: Education scientist Sugata Mitra, the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre and designer Philippe Starck. Hopefully, their words will generate a discussion among us.

"It is becoming increasingly likely that from the perspective of a not too distant future the period from the late Renaissance to the beginning of the 21st century will be seen as dominated and even defined by the cultural significance of print – not least in the form of the mass-produced book which is virtually synonymous with Western culture. It accordingly seems appropriate to designate this period, roughly corresponding to the half-millennium from 1500 to 2000, “the Gutenberg Parenthesis”....The closing of the Gutenberg Parenthesis is accordingly the opening up to a completely new and so far only-partially glimpsed - let alone understood - cognitive situation"
