Art in Urban context: &, how much space does a bicycle take?

Working from the position of artist driven, artist initiated works inserted into the urban context; in both public and private space - Outside the Domain of the Institution . The city as an experimental lab, as the raw material – utilizing its very complexities, to navigate, explore, investigate and comprehend from new and changed perspectives – taking theory into practice.
This project will include a mix of the following elements:

  • Mapping, with reference to Situationism, the Flaneur, Fluxus, Agit-Prop & Cartography.

  • Artist strategies, as tools to realising innovative thinking.

  • Performative workshop.

  • Nomadic systems; questions of transience/permanence.

  • The collective/the group/the collaborative.

  • Place/Site/Location/Address/X: content carriers.
  • Investigate limnal space.

  • Discussion of relevant articles

  • Lecture series

  • Visit to Bergen’s underground 

  • Audience identifying/building.

Process:

Via a brainstorming and radically hands-on methodology, students will explore their concepts, developing their personal contextual project through research, studio practice, fieldwork, and tutor guidance; a collective/group &/or collaborative approach will be discussed & where relevant, applied, Dialogue and discussion about how strategies, issues and positions are developed in relation to this current art practice. The project as a whole, is highly experiential; through this accumulative experience works can develop which manifest in a variety of directions: installation/sculpture/performative/site-specific/interactive/interventive/temporary/mobile…


Krav til forkunnskaper:

Required knowledge:


Need for prior knowledge: Mapping, Contextual, Art in Official Public Space/Spatial Art Projects/Site-Specific/Architectural or similar, will be beneficial. Experience of personal, independent project/research-based work: installation, sculpture, performance and work in-location; together with drawing/photo/video/computer skills.
