The workshop will explore and develop certain ideas concerning the body. How the idea of the “nude” has predominated art history and what this might mean in our contemporary world today. We will explore certain issues concerning the politics of representation, the body, religious narratives, sexuality and the image, and how this might shape yours and our ideas of image making and art practices today.
The implicit and explicit narrative of the body?
The workshop will encourage you to think about how you work might work with the body:
There will be an emphasis on working within your developing current art practice and also by responding to a series of questions presented during the workshop. The aim is to develop thinking about your relationship to the body and constructing new visual and conceptual possibilities for your work.
Key ideas:
- To explore and develop question and ideas about the body in relation to the production and presentation of your art practice.
- Thinking about the body and narrative structures.
- The idea of the body as a site-subject-object.
Arbeidsform:
The aim is to develop practical skills and critical reflection that can help the development of your current art production.
The workshop will be structured using the following: Individual and group tutorials, group presentations and seminars and practical workshops.
Central to the workshop will be an exploration of both the historical and contemporary conditions that may influence our understanding of the body in relation to art production today. What they might be? How they are constructed? Where they exist?
The intention is to have an exhibition/installation and web based presence of the work made during the workshop in the final week.
