Artists' Books and the publications of RGAP - a exhibition and lecture by Martin Rogers
Artists' books are works of art realized in the form of a book. They are often published in small editions, though sometimes they are produced as one-of-a-kind objects referred to as "uniques". "Artists' books are books or book-like objects over the final appearance of which an artist has had a high degree of control; where the book is intended as a work of art in itself." -Stephen Bury
RGAP (Research Group for Artists Publications) was formed by Martin Rogers in 1993, and is an independent, artist-led organisation, now based in Sheffield
RGAP has an ongoing programme of publishing books and editions with artists, and works with other centres in the UK and abroad, setting up collaborative projects, publications, exhibitions and events. As well as working with visual artists, RGAP has published editions by composers, writers, sound, and performance artists, together with works of research and criticism.
Alongside the publishing of books with artists, RGAP has staged many events including readings and performances, film screenings, international exhibitions, conferences and workshops, and founded the Small Publishers Fair, now held annually in London. From these events, there is much documentation which forms part of the RGAP archive.
Martin Rogers will do a presentation of the atrist book as an idea and books published by RGAP. The lecture will be at 11 o'clock ( in english) and RGAP's books will be on display at ROM 8 in Vaskerelven 8.
