A rough guide to ceramics
Ceramics is found within architecture and visual art as well as within design and industry. Therefore a historical retrospective view is neccessary in order to understand the different positions and discussions going on in this field filled with contrasts.
Main stress in the lectures will be put on the last 150 years, and we will discuss concepts like industrial art, decorative art, ceramic art and conceptual ceramics. The exhibitions Dirt on Delight and Object Factory, shown in The USA during summer 2009, will be used as check points for current attitudes and positions. The lectures are first and foremost for new ceramics students, but other students too are welcome to join the course.
