Cultural analysis

Object: The course will give students a basic understanding of the culture which surrounds us. Such an understanding is central to the ability to communicate properly. Culture is a highly ambiguous concept, so it is important to take different approaches to the study of culture. Emphasis will be put on media`s role as producer, transformer and reproducer of culture.

Academic content: the course deals with the following main topics:

1. The socio-anthropological perspective on culture.
2. The sociological perspective on culture.
3. Cultural studies
4. Cultural analysis


Workform:

The course will consist of 10 hours of seminar teaching and 5 hours of tutor based teaching related to the completion of a project in cultural analysis.

This project could either be an oral presentation or a written report where cultural analysis is linked to the master project.
