Expressive typography and animation
Through dialogue and practical experimenting the students will reach a theoretical conclusion on what the term "expressive typography" includes. The student will get a deeper understanding for typographic design, with all the technical challenges related to readability and construction. But they will also learn to have a closer look at the emotional dimension of typography, how letters by means of iconologic interpretation can express something sensual. The course will challenge the students to work with concepts and to base their choises on semiotic analysis.
Introduction to the history of concepts and ideas with visual references. The students can either choose from a list of different approaches, or they can base the work on their own project. The project should have a conceptual approach with a theoretical basis. The project should be transformed into an animated picture. The visual solutions developed should also be transformed into animation on screen. Introduction to software Adobe After Effects.
Workform:
Individual tutoring with presentations in plenary every other day. Sketching process on paper in class room. Materials and techniques are optional as long as it is transferable to animated picture. Individual work or in groups of two. The technical solution will decide the presentation form on the last day of the course. The visual concept should be presented as animation on screen as well as other visual solutions.
