Identity Theory

Goal: The goal of the course is to make the students conscious of how to understand their own and other people`s identity. It is especially important to understand one’s own identity as a designer. Identity is an ambiguous concept, hence it is important to pass through many different perspectives and different academic tradition’s views on the field.

Academic content: the course deals with the following main themes:

1. Sociological identity theory.
2. Psychological identity theory.
3. Anthropological identity theory.
4. Demographic identity theory.
5. Identity semiotics/rhetorics/hermeneutics.
6. Segmentation and targeted group analysis.
7. Modernity theory/globalisation theory.
8. Media created identity


Workform:

15 hours seminar lecturing. Discussion with students will be emphasized.
