Industrial furniture design. Part 1: Idea and model.

Objective:

Gain knowledge and experience in the first part of a design process aimed at industrial furniture production.The students will be trained in creative, analytical design work and holistic thinking. Insight into efficient production methods and preparing of prorotypes.

Content:

Based on industrial furniture design, the project period aims at guiding the students through a methodical design process. From defining a problem, through analysis and idea development to detailed schematic drawing or working drawing in scale 1:1 and models in scale 1: 5.

Students must come up with suggestions for at least three different solutions and visualise the results in sketches and sketch models. The suggestions may be a part of or be seen in relation to the spatial solution from the previous project period, Interior in public space.
The solution must consist of:
Detailed schematic drawing optional scale in 1.1, or working drawing 1:1 of a model.
Necessary text and dimension of the drawn material.
Brief, written statement about idea and concept.Presentations. Documentation of the process in pictures and texts, short PowerPoint presentation to be delivered to course leader before 27 November. Review in class 13 November, project room, Marken 37. Evaluation on KHiB web.

Workform:

Tutoring, investigation, individual project work with analysis, sketches and 3D models, detailed drawings or working drawing in full scale. Documentation during the process with digital pictures, sketches and text. Presentation and review in class.


Prequalifications:

Passed 4th term BA or corresponding, approved safety courses.

The course starts 03/11/2009 / Week 45, and ends 13/11/2009 / Week 46
