MA Design Writing course, part 1

Topics: Problem statement, project description, project planning

Goal: Give an insight in

- how to approach a problem
- how to present, discuss and assess individual problem statements
- how to limit a problem
- how to develop the existing project description according to a limited problem statement
- how to plan the master thesis and master project
- how to work with writing ethics, reading and writing processes
- how to defuse writing
- how to organize writing groups that works after the course is over

Content:
We read and discuss individual problem statements. Sheets of paper on the wall with all problem statements, and questions such as: What is a good and clearly expressed problem statement? What does it mean to have a good problem statement? How can I express and limit my problem statement? How do I make my problem statement catchy? How do I integrate my problem statement in my project description? How to work with good writing processes? What does writing ethics and research ethics mean, and why is ethics so important? How to read efficiently and purposeful? How to get the most of a writing group? Other questions of current interest might come from the participants during he course.


Workform:

Lectures, discussions, individual presentations, group work, writing and response practice individually and in groups, reading problem statements, project descriptions and master theses.


Prequalifications:

Prequalification and participation:

All students must have stated a problem and written a project description which will be presented during the course. You prepare for the course by answering written assignments which will be sent to you by e-mail in advance.
You send your paper to the coordinator appr 3 days before the course begins. You should spend 2-4 days on your paper.
