Situational Drawing

There is something inherently human about the impulse to draw. In this weeklong drawing course, students are invited to work on imagery derived from personal and observed sources. A series of exercises designed to promote the exploration of such imagery will help students to work towards the formulation of a personal drawing vocabulary.

Sources such as plants and animals, dreams, photographs, video, and the human figure are drawn upon for inspiration. Drawing situations presented in each class will focus on spatial relationships, layering, fragmentation and subjective interpretations.

This course is designed for students who are interested in developing their observational skills and their ability to decipher visual material. The course is open to students of all levels of drawing ability, including beginners, and the focus will be on the development of students' powers of perception.
