Spatial Practice: MA seminar with Brandon LaBelle

Spatial Practice: October 7, October 14, November 11, December 2
How might elements of surrounding space contribute to art making, and be incorporated into specific projects and research?
Focusing on the built environment, and the question of space, the seminar introduces ideas and methods for working relationally: What is my relation to this place? Where are the boundaries between inside and outside? How does this object perform in different contexts? Through consideration of the developments of installation art and contextual research, the seminar explores approaches toward working on site, and aims to discuss contemporary projects and related spatial issues. Further, class projects will be developed as part of the seminar to deepen understanding and enliven our sense for space as both material as well as imaginary.
