Symposium on Curatorial programs - an informal situation for reflection and exchange of experiences
Curating is not a conclusion but a continuous questioning.
A symposium with the participators from educational programmes on Curating (Art).
Some issues and questions:We are now able to recognize a new institutional topography, which ultimately changes the way we define the art-institution. The boundaries between the independent and the institutional curating are getting blurred, as well as the boundaries between the artist and the curator, the curator and the producer and sponsor. What importance does the local cultural and socioeconomic environment have on the program? How do they negotiate in relation to a local environment coping with influences and demands from an international art field and an internationally oriented education? With this in mind we want to focus on the relation between education and practice, its social and cultural issues and theoretical tools.
This symposium will adjoin Bergen Biennial Conference, September 17th – 20th, which aims to “identify and explore existing ‘biennial knowledge’ from different regions of the world” (for more information: http://bbc2009.no/
