The Stage of Decadence

The stage of decadence is a ceramic project exploring the overlap between art & design.
The stage of decadence is also a journey and venture into creative interpretation of the cultural status and social values.
Project will focus on the society self indulgence, economy of desire and new luxurious self in the modern consumerism.
Through deigned forms, ready-made objects, and combination of booth students will formulate their own critical view of the stage of decadence.
Whatever decadence means to you, its values or nuances it carries a profound artistic language than can be interpreted on a number of social, ritualistic and aesthetic levels.
Ceramics is an excellent vehicle able to carry the social comment under the pretext of utility and domestic status.

Workform:

Students will evolve a concept of decadence and translate this into reality through design development of sophisticated models & moulds, they will also be encouraged to explore ideas through the re-contextualization of objects, habits or rituals through the use of the ready made and the absurd juxtaposition of objects and function.
This project will give students the chance to explore a concept, their sensibilities, their views on designs outer edges and design through an infinitely transformable material.

The final outcome of this project it is less concerned with the ceramic object but its impact and dialogue within our society and the contemporary culture therein, it will raise questions about the way we live and how people engage with each other, their rituals and the objects they use.
