To make II workshop v Stein Rønning og Matthew Galpin
Teaching will consist of lectures and seminars, a hands-on workshop and an exhibition of the works produced during the period.
"To Make II"
The course will introduce a concept of work as something that becomes what is as a consequence of its making. Then, what is this making, how is it structured and what is this space where this work takes place? The concept of work will be discussed with the aid of three essays by Giogio
Agamben: § 7 "Privation is like a face", §8 "Poiesis and praxis" and §9 "The original structure of art" in "The Man Without Content", Stanford University 1999. It will be further discussed by a text by Alain Badiou,
§1 in "Handbook in In aesthetics" Stanford University 2005 and the open lecture to be found on:
www.egs.edu/faculty/badiou/badiou-truth-process-2002.html. Finally a text by Richard Sennet, §3 "Machines" in part one in "The Craftsman"
Penguin Books, 2009. Texts will on request be made available in the library two weeks before course startup. It is however a good idea if the participants buy the books themselves. Besides the text introductions there will be a practical workshop running for the two weeks to be concluded in an exhibition. Participants will as part of the course introduction be expected to present their own work focusing on choice of procedures. The course will be run by Matthew Luck Galpin and Stein Rønning.
