Research Interests/Statement
The presentation of the damaged work and the threat of abandonment is tangible in much of my artistic practice however much of it focuses not on depictions of ruin but on the artwork as ruin; how the artwork/viewer/location relationship is disrupted through a provisionalised engagement; and how ‘disturbances’ are created in meaning and function. My practice shows a pre-occupation with the acts of cutting and rejoining, revealing a ‘potential space’ - perhaps within the ‘joins’ themselves – and a sense of liminality. These acts often involve violence against a ‘piece of work’ or image, and a feeling of calculated ruination befalls any intended ‘outcome’ - of course these acts also alter the genetic structure of the thing forming a new combination.
