Videoworx 1: Extending the body
Videoworx is a workshop series on video art consisting of thematic workshops, technical introduction and individual work with demonstrations, lectures, assignments, discussions, and reviews.
Extending the body
Media can be seen as different ways of extending the human body`s range, and also to structure and adjust perceptible experience. This first course in Vieoworx will give a historical, conceptual and technical introduction to how aesthetic technology has been and can be used to strengthen and manipulate perception and experience.
Basic introduction in how to use audiovisual recording media like different types of cameras, microphones, mobile cameras etc., and puts different ways of using these objects into artistic and historical context.
Phenomenological approach, exploring light, sound and space in traditional as well as modern media according to optics, sound, camera technology, telecommunication, surveillance, video, moblie technology etc.
Look at and listen to paintings, video, film, sound and media art, especially videoworks, and discuss different strategies and media to extend, move and manipulate the experience of time and space.
Art works shown during the course: Dziga Vertov, Bill Viola, Edward Muybridge, Jenni, Jonas Dahlberg, Pierre Huyghe, Tony Hill, Inger Lise Hansen, Francis Alys, Jørgen Larsson, Gary Hill, Steina og Woody Vasulka, Robert Cahen, Vito Acconti, Michael Snow, etc.

Philosophical and media related topics will be discussed, texts will be handed out.
We assume that the students work on their individual projects during the course, and that they reserve necessary equipment for their work.
