Visual culture - understanding pictures

The visual area is as old as culture itself. The dramatic growth in society`s total circulation of pictures after invention of the lithography and photography at the beginning of the 19th century led to big changes in the production and use of pictures. The changes also reach into our time`s super quick development and intensifying technology.
This course will give a deeper understanding in how modern picture culture works. Focus on the still media - painting, graphics, photography -and their history and usage. The picture`s role in present time`s multi media visual culture will also be discussed by means of a range of examples.
