Book design

For thousands of years, the printed book has kept its format. At the same time, the book mirrors technical development, current trends and styles. The electronic book has been on the market for a long time. Why have the publishers been so reluctant?

The book designer's task, either for the printed or electronic book, is to form the text and make the communication between the author and the reader as clear as possible. The book designer also brings added value to the text and has an identifying function. «Informasjon is something you can always acquire. However, the book represents something more – quiet, reflection, intimacy (...) value. The visual aspect can add something different than the written word, something that speaks to your feelings and that might be universal for all non-language expressions» Aud Gloppen
