Cultural analysis
Goal: The course will give students a basic understanding of the culture surrounding us. Such an understanding is critical for the ability to communicate efficiently. Culture is a highly ambiguous concept, so it is important to use different approaches to the study of culture. Emphasis will be placed on media`s role as producer, transformer and reproducer of culture.
Academic content: the course deals with the following main topics:
1. The socio-anthropological perspective on culture
2. The sociological perspective on culture
3. Cultural studies
4. Cultural analysis
Workform:
The course will consist of 10 hours of seminar teaching and 5 hours of tutoring based teaching related to the completion of a project in cultural analysis. This project could either be an oral presentation or a written report where cultural analysis is linked to the master's degree project:
Monday 14 March: 08.15–11.00
Thursday 17 March: 11.15–14.00
Monday 21 March: 08.15–11.00
