Expressive typography and animation
The course shows how the message in words and/or sentences can be affected on an emotional level by breaking away from classic typographic conventions. Through the use of animation, these artifices can further enhance that effect.
Goals
Practical experiences and semiotic analysis will show how typographic design affects how we understand words/sentences. Through the understanding of form, material and iconology, one can more easily controle the message.
Content
In the first part of the course we will be exploring how various material, planes and shapes – both physical and digital – affect how we read words. Through own research and analysis in groups, one will develop an expression which is transferred into words/sentences. Then, the typography is animated to enhance the chosen expression. The work will be summarized in a short film.
