Imitation

Graphics has been the imitation`s and multiplying`s medium. Like a chameleon it has taken up the expressions of drawing, painting and photography. We will be looking at new and old examples of works and artists who relate to this thematic structure. Furthermore, we will give an introduction course in digital repro, silk screen printing and intaglio printing to give the students the necessary tool to be able to operate in this field.

WORKSHOP WEEK 45

Lecturer: To be announced.

How do we take a drawn, painted or photographic original and transform it into graphics?

During these days, the students will learn how to prepare digital files for (repro) film material for further use in the silk, offset and intaglio printing process.

WORKSHOP WEEK 46 (silk printing)

WORKSHOP WEEK 48 (intaglio printing)

In both introductions, emphasis will be put on work with indirect methods; that is, the work that is going to be printed (silk, intaglio) first has to be created via another medium (drawing, painting or photography).

It is important that the students are conscious of their own point of view in relation to graphics imitating characteristics through one or more concrete projects. The presentation of this (these) project(s) in plenary in the stage of idea/sketch will form the basis for the further progression during this period.

The course is mandatory for first year students studying Printmaking at Dept of Specialised Art. Students from other studies need no special previous knowledge to attend the course. For those students, it will also be possible (by agreement with the main tutor) to participate in parts of the course, e.g. the technical introductions/workshops. However, we do recommend to participate during the whole period to get the best result possible and understanding of both technique and thematic structure.
