Information design – pictograms

Pictograms are everywhere – in public toilets, on your cell-phone, computers, signs and transport systems. They inform, warn, and sometimes they just decorate. This course will give an insight into and experience with the needs and development of the small and compact forms, which are used in identified environments and situations where information and ideas can be communicated in a more efficient way visually than in writing.

Goal:

Give insight into and understanding of the development and use of pictograms and pictogrammatic programs. The course will also make the students more aware of comminication and qualities, and knowledge of how to define, plan and design communication tools.

Content:
Development of a series (or more) visual symbols
Chose communication site(s)
Serial development and module systems
Judging the denotative or connotative values.


Workform:

Lectures, production of visual ideas, working in groups, presentations and indivual tutoral.

Analysis of demand and perception
Reflection on meaningful communication
Idea development


Prequalifications:

Basic knowledge of visual communication
