Narrating images
“Once upon a time ...” is an urging mantra – leading into many fantastic universes. Stories in different cultures about creation and existence, the meaning of birth and death and all demanding transitions and challenges in life, have created an immense number of stories, fables and myths. In this course, you will have the role as a visual co-writer. Has the material stagnated in its form, or is it possible to think of a solution beyond tradition?
Goals: Inspired by lectures, workshops and through practical training and working methods, the students shall be practicing the following:
- interpret, create and visualise a story through a series of images
- compose in such a way that the story appears as a coherent structure and not just as a series of loose elements
- compose and dramatise to make the series meaningful, with or without text
- create dynamics and interaction between word and image
- influence the expression through choice of technique and use of dramatic effects
Content: Write a resumé of the chosen story, make sketches using different techniques, make a character, draw a storyboard, make minimum three originals in a technique of your choice. Course report based on a log throughout the course, which is handed in as a part of the working material.
Method: Research and analysis. Interpretation of content. Brainstorming and development of sketches.

Individual project work, tutorials individually and in class, presentation.

Basic knowledge of Photoshop and how to create a character
