The art of Reverse Fabrication , a collaboration between KHiB form, space & colour and Warzsawa Academy of Arts and Figgjo porcelain manufacturer.
This concept is to take the impure waste of the manufacturing process in porcelain manufacture and reverse the process with a spiritual nod to tradition and render waste objects into unique art objects. This will engage with the modern concept of “up cycling” in which objects through the act of recycling are transformed to a higher value than before.
This is inspired by the tradition for decoration derived from the need to cover up impurities or faults in the process of making. So blue hand painted patterns and gold embellishments became the norm.
This proposal is to take the waste/damaged plates which have not conformed to stringent quality control but to the imperfect eye seem fine and put them through a process of artistic intervention, wherein this mass manufactured object is rendered a unique work of art.
Students and staff from KHiB and students and staff from Warsaw Academy of Arts in Poland will be given the opportunity to work in the ceramic decorative medium to present a unique collection of objects each one in a limited edition of two. These objects will be exhibited , before being auctioned anonymously in a celebration of creative necessity.
Design Art or Craft Design ? From mass-produced design object till unique art object.
