To Make VI

To Make VI - Matthew L. Galpin / Stein Rønning

WEEKS 10 and 11.

The course To Make VI consists of two parts: maintaining the studio and reading / discussing - i.e. part of the business as usual for most artists. The small difference is that here we do it together and then with the aim to exhibit work at the end, without perhaps having actually finished any.

This is not a theory course in an academic sense, and it is not a usual workshop, but a hybrid, as the massage of the space made up on the one side, by the making practice of the studio, and on the other side by the thinking about what goes on in there, in a broad sense. What we usually do in the studio - to be shed light upon through short texts by Gilles Deleuze. What is the actual of the act of making impressions upon the sensible? What is the characteristic of the clearing of space provided by the radical empiricism of Deleuze? How does his conceptual toolkit make an order wherein to see and sense the making of some thing? Something like this.

The texts will be centered around Deleuze´s book on plastic art " Francis Bacon, the logic of sensation" Some of the material to be read will be found in this book and we suggest that all participants buy this book - it should be part of your library anyway.

Precise choice of texts will be provided two weeks before the course takes place.

First week will be based upon seminar / reading + tutorials and the last week will be concentrating on working in the project space on the 6.th floor.
