Application and admission
Bergen National Academy of the Arts (KHiB) offers no BA programmes in English. KHiB admits international students to the following MA study programmes:
- MA in Design at the Dept of Design
- MA in Fine Art at the Dept of Fine Art and at the Dept of Specialised Art
Master of Arts in Art
The MA programme is a collaboration between the Dept of Fine Art and The Dept of Specialised Art.
For admission each applicant has to enclose a statement of motivation. The statement shall demonstrate:
- Why you are applying to the MA at KHIB and what expectations do you have for master studies at Kunsthøgskolen in Bergen?
- How do you plan to work artistically, what methods, media etc. do you intend to use?
- What are your critical reflections and thoughts around your artistic work to date? (BA project or other relevant artistic work)
- Which artistic themes or questions do you propose to investigate during your MA studies?
- What is the context you relate your practice to? (Artistic and theoretical references, themes and questions)
Master of Arts in Design
Organised by the Dept of Design
Requirements for formulation of the project description:
- The theme and area of artistic/design investigation proposed for the MA project.
- A description of the applicant’s motivation for the project.
- A description of how the project will be carried out and presented.
- The length should normally be 1-2 A4 pages.
Closing date: Be sure that the application will arrive in Norway before the closing date. The admission committee can not wait for application to arrive long after the closing date.
ADMISSION
Shortlisted applicants will be notified in a letter sent from KHiB at latest February 22 (MA in Fine Art), and April 15 (MA in Design). They will be invited for an interview at KHiB March 21 - 25 (MA in Fine Art) and June 14 - 17 (MA in Design). Where it is deemed appropriate, interview may be conducted via telephone.
An offer of Admission will be sent from KHiB by March 29 (MA in Fine Art) and June 21 (MA in Design)
Applicants finishing a BA degree after March 29 (BA in Fine Art) or June 21 (BA in Design), will get a conditional admission, which requires a documentation of the BA degree before a final Admission Letter will be sent.
